On April 2, 1966 Charles and Claudia Weathers were married. Who is Charles and Claudia Weathers you may ask? They are two people I get the joy to call my grandparents. To this day they are still one of my favorite examples of marriage, in being a couple that puts three things first: God, family and others.
God:
It’s the little things. They have not traveled to a third-world country. My grandparents haven’t sold away everything they own to live among the poor. However, they have been faithful to live a life worthy of the gospel. My grandparents have been faithful to be in the church, my Grandma specifically serves in the prayer room as well as helping cook for the church when needed for various events such as VBS and times of fellowship.
Family:
What my grandparents have set as a standard is being a family. They believe in the importance of family. Almost every Sunday our whole family will gather together to share a meal together and stay connected with one another. Yes, sometimes we get on each other’s nerves, but guess what? That’s family. At the end of the day, family should be the people who will always stand by you.
Others:
My grandparents have always been people that are willing to help another. When Jesus said, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” I can promise you my grandparents didn’t question or overthink that one. When people die, my Grandma always seems to be ready with something delicious and homemade. My Grandpa is the handyman of handymans. If you can break it, he can fix it. And this is something he’s done for a variety of people, myself included.
Rarely are my grandparents the type to ask for much from others, but time and time again have proven that they are always available to led a helping hand to those in need.
To the years ahead:
My grandparents have left a legacy to my family, as a couple that has stood through a test of time over the years. Today is the day that endurance is celebrated, through the good days and bad, from the first child to first grandchild, and from their first anniversary to their fiftieth.
Sloan,
What a beautiful message about your grandparents. They are a truly amazing couple I have known all my life. Your grandfather is my cousin and your grandmother is my sister in Christ. She is truly an amazing woman, but don’t tell her I said that about her. They truly are a good example of putting God first. I know as a fact they are so very proud of you and the young man you have become. May God continue to bless and watch over you and your loving family.
God’s Peace and Grace,
Sharon DeFelice
