The Day Between

Saturday.

In a majority of people’s lives this is a day of relaxation, projects around the house, or weekend getaways. In the aspect of Easter weekend however, this is the day that stood still in time.

We mourn on Good Friday, and celebrate the joys that come in the morning of Easter, but Saturday? Saturday is something we have grown away from in our fast paced lives we now live.

Reflection.

After the brutality of the cross that occurred on Friday, Jesus died. Take the moment to consider, God died. God the Father, crushed God the Son and it pleased the Father to do so (Isaiah 53:10)

After Jesus’ death his body was taken and buried. And then, nothing. The rest of Friday, dead. Then came Saturday, and yet again, dead.

It is this day, that we take the time to reflect. Not on the gruesome cross that killed Jesus, but on what a world without the hope of Jesus’ resurrection would be. To truly enjoy the gift of the resurrection, take some time to think: What if Jesus had not arose on the third day?

For me, one word comes to mind when I begin to imagine a world without the resurrected Christ: hopelessness.

The point is, this time should cause us to see the gravity of Christ’s actions, and likewise lead us as the Church into a deeper affection and worship of Him as we enter into the celebration of Easter!
